It’s All About the Bag

At BagButler we understand the transformational power of a great handbag so it is no surprise to us that Bottega Veneta’s resurgence as a cult brand can be traced to 2018 and one bag, The Pouch – an oversized clutch bag made in buttery calf leather.

When Bradford born Daniel Lee took the role of creative director in July 2018, he found himself in need of a bag to help him through his first resort collection for the Kering owned house… “it was something done spontaneously to get us through that first season” said Lee about the Pouch.

The Pouch not only fulfilled its role that first season but is still going strong and has inspired many high street interpretations of the squashy, logo less, comforting, cushion of a bag. The Pouch has also seemingly caused a re-establishment of the term “It Bag”

It’s interesting to know that the Pouch was based on an archive design of a bag carried by Lauren Hutton in American Gigolo (1980) and quickly became the bestselling Bottega bag ever. Lee describes the Pouch as having “a tactile, soft, sensual, very photogenic aspect to it…” Its camera-friendly good looks have certainly guaranteed its Instagram status and at the British Fashion Awards in December 2019 Bottega won four awards including of course Accessories Designer of the Year.

At BagButler we have recently added two, new shape, very hot off the shelves, Bottega clutches to our collection. Like the Pouch, they are gorgeously tactile and oh so photogenic. We went for the orange and the pale blue to tap into the trends for pastels and neon’s although as with any clever design or colourway these are styles that work with any look and almost any colour including some surprising combinations. We predict a baby blue and lime micro trend brewing as we type!

So far, our covetable clutches have braved the cold and rain at London Fashion Week, toured the sights of London, travelled nearly the length of the UK (and back again 😊 ) and will also grace Paris Fashion Week with their good looks. The only question we now have is whether, having gone for the newest shape, we should add an original Pouch to the BagButler stable. And then there is the colour to consider……….mmmmm
