Monochrome literally means ‘one colour’ however in fashion circles we now tend to think of it as meaning black, white and possibly grey either worn alone or in combination.
Coco Chanel had a way with words. She summed up the appeal of monochrome saying……..
“Black has it all. White, too. Their beauty is absolute. It’s the perfect harmony.”
We absolutely love a pop of colour at BagButler. A bright bandeau looped to a handbag handle in an unexpected colour combination is a thing of beauty to us. There is, nonetheless, something soothing and reliable about both black and white either worn alone top to toe or together. Maybe in these tumultuous times the appeal and the certainty of black and white speak the language we want and need to hear.
Who doesn’t love a houndstooth check or a simple white T-shirt with black trousers or vice versa? Perennially popular this is perhaps the only look which is never out of style and works whatever the season. You just can’t go wrong with it.
Worn consistently as a style statement black and white is amazingly impactful. Can anyone imagine Karl Lagerfeld in anything colourful? It would have been akin to a fashion atrocity and somehow would have diluted the brands he designed for.
Some of our favourite influencers have shared these great images showing us that black and white is always relevant from head to toe.
