Quoting Chanel

20 Feb 2020

“A girl should be two things, classy and fabulous.”

It is no secret that Chanel is our favourite luxury brand. Our growing collection of Chanel bags and accessories says it all.

There is just something about a Chanel bag that needs no explanation and we have never met anyone that doesn’t feel the same about those signature interlocking “C’s.”

It was Chanel who gave us two-toned shoes, pearls a plenty, tweed suits, costume jewellery and quilted bags. A passionate, motivated and erudite woman, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was also a mistress of the soundbite. Here we share just some of the quotes that have been attributed to this most iconic of designers.

Chanel on Beauty

“Nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty. But at fifty you get the face you deserve.”

“One can get used to ugliness, but never to negligence.”

Chanel on Style

Were we able to stick to the following words of wisdom we might never make a fashion faux pas again!

“Fashion passes, style remains.”

“Fashion is made to become unfashionable”

“The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you”

“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”

Chanel on Life

One of five, Gabrielle Chanel had a difficult start in life. She was born in 1883 illegitimate and into poverty. In 1895 her mother died, and Gabrielle and her two sisters were soon placed into an orphanage by their father. At the orphanage, Gabrielle not only learned to sew but also gave expression to the uncompromising determination that runs through the following quotes.

“ How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but someone ”

“There is no time for cut and dried monotony. There is time for work. And time for love. That leaves no other time.”

“My life didn’t please me, so I created my life.”

Finally… Chanel on Fragrance because this amuses us… and after all Chanel did create the world’s most iconic perfume.

“A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.”
