Something old, something new, something rented, something blue…
Normally the BagButler blog post is composed in a collegiate style. Today as the business owner I have decided to write it in a personal way.
A few weeks ago we celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. We were lucky enough to have been married at Cliveden House in Taplow and I stayed there the night before. (Perhaps the only similarity between myself and Megan, The Duchess of Sussex)
Memory is a strange phenomenon. Do I remember the shade of lipstick I no doubt agonised over for weeks? No. The photographer’s name? Sadly not. Here though are a few of the memories that have stayed with me over the two decades……
The weather. It was a fine and bright morning and I remember going for a wonderful walk around the grounds of Cliveden before I then disappeared for all the usual hair and grooming activities and crucially before my husband to be and all our guests began to arrive.
Hearing the chatter and laughter of the guests on the terrace while I was still hidden away.
The sunshine on the parterre.
My father-in-law telling me he liked my perfume. Allure by Chanel.
Feeling really happy. Feeling I was “home”.
My husband’s first words to me as I arrived by his side for the ceremony to begin. Not to be printed here.
The sound of the harp. The laughter of our guests as they were entertained by the speeches made by my husband and his best man.
Why am I telling you all this?
Well, it was the most magical time and part of the great pleasure of it all was in all the planning and preparation. It was the meetings with the Cliveden florist and cake maker. It was finding the perfect shoes and it was the long lunches at Cliveden chatting about the details of the day. It was those evenings spent hand sewing pouches for sugared almond wedding favours and it was the time taken to taste test all the sugared almonds to find the best. It was the accumulation of so many things big and small that happily collided on that day in May to give us the most wonderful wedding and start to our married life.
To have needed to postpone our wedding for any reason would have been devastating. And so on to the point of this blog post…
